IRS Agents Training To Assist in Examination of Taxpapers Using QuickBooks®
Lynn C. Rust, CPA has just learned from the National Association of Tax Professionals that the IRS is currently training agents to assist in the examination of taxpayers using QuickBooks®. While not all QuickBooks® users are being targeted by this change, IRS agents will be making judgments on a case by case basis. If a taxpayer is selected for audit, IRS agents will require a taxpayer to furnish a copy of their QuickBooks® database for the year under audit. However, if, under examination of the original audit year, the IRS deems that it is necessary, additional years may also be examined. Failure to furnish a QuickBooks® database by a taxpayer will trigger a summons.
As a result of this change by the IRS, it is more important than ever to make sure all your QuickBooks® databases are in order. Call us before tax time and we’ll be happy to look over your books.
